Astrocartography lines show where each planet sat on an angle of the sky at your birth, drawn across a world map. The Sun line relates to visibility, the Moon to home and feeling, Venus to beauty and connection, and Jupiter to growth and learning. An astrocartography reading Dubai expats book with me usually begins with these four lines.
Many of the people I meet in Jumeirah have lived in three or four countries already, so they arrive curious about why some cities felt like home and others never quite did.
What Astrocartography Actually Maps
Astrocartography is a branch of astrology that takes your birth chart and projects it onto the globe. Using your date, exact time and place of birth, it calculates where on Earth each planet would have been rising, setting, overhead or underfoot at that moment.
The result is a map covered in curved and vertical lines. Each line belongs to one planet and one of four angles. Wherever you see a line, the themes of that planet are said to be emphasised in that location within the tradition.
I always explain one point clearly at the start: these lines describe themes for reflection, not certain outcomes. A place does not hand you love, money or success. It may, however, colour the way you experience everyday life there, and that is a useful lens when you are weighing a move, a long stay or even a holiday.
The Four Angles Behind Every Line
Before looking at individual planets, it helps to understand the four angles. Every planet has one line for each:
- AC (Ascendant) line – where the planet was rising. Linked with personal presence, how you come across and how you feel in your body.
- DC (Descendant) line – where the planet was setting. Linked with partnerships, collaborators and the people you attract.
- MC (Midheaven) line – where the planet was overhead. Linked with public life, reputation and career direction.
- IC (Imum Coeli) line – where the planet was underfoot. Linked with home, roots, family and private life.
So a Venus MC line and a Venus IC line will feel quite different, even though both carry Venus themes. Reading the angle is as important as reading the planet.
Sun Lines: Visibility and Self-Expression
The Sun represents your core identity, vitality and the parts of you that want to be seen. Near a Sun line, people often describe feeling more noticed, more confident in expressing who they are, or more drawn to leadership roles.
- Sun MC: themes of recognition and stepping into a visible role.
- Sun AC: themes of personal confidence and a stronger sense of self.
- Sun IC: themes of building a home that reflects who you are.
- Sun DC: themes of meeting people who mirror your strengths back to you.
A reflection question I use: Where in my life do I want to be seen more clearly, and is this the right season for it? Visibility can feel energising for one person and exposing for another.
Moon Lines: Home, Feeling and Belonging
The Moon speaks of emotions, comfort, memory and the need to belong. Near Moon lines, people often report that a place feels familiar, sometimes surprisingly so, or that their inner world becomes more vivid there.
- Moon IC: a classic theme of feeling at home and wanting to put down roots.
- Moon AC: heightened sensitivity and a more open, receptive presence.
- Moon MC: public work connected to care, food, family or community.
- Moon DC: closer emotional bonds with the people around you.
Moon places can feel nurturing, but they can also feel emotionally intense. I invite people to ask: Do I want comfort right now, or do I want challenge?
Venus Lines: Beauty, Pleasure and Connection
Venus is often the first line people look for, because it carries themes of beauty, art, pleasure, harmony and relationships. It is also the line most misunderstood. A Venus line is not a promise of romance or financial ease. It is better seen as a place where you may notice beauty more easily and feel more drawn to connection and creativity.
- Venus AC: enjoying your own style, appearance and sense of ease.
- Venus DC: relationships and partnerships becoming a stronger focus.
- Venus MC: work connected to design, art, hospitality or diplomacy.
- Venus IC: creating a beautiful, peaceful home.
A Venus place can be wonderful for a creative retreat or a restful break. Whether it suits long-term living depends on the rest of your map and, just as importantly, on your practical life.
Jupiter Lines: Growth, Learning and Expansion
Jupiter is associated with growth, optimism, generosity, study, travel and faith. Near Jupiter lines, many people describe feeling more open to new ideas and more willing to take a step they have been hesitating over.
- Jupiter MC: themes of professional growth and wider horizons in your work.
- Jupiter AC: a more expansive, hopeful outlook.
- Jupiter IC: a generous, spacious home life and family gatherings.
- Jupiter DC: mentors, teachers and supportive partners.
Jupiter's shadow is excess, doing too much, spending too freely or overcommitting. So even with a "favourable" line, steady planning still matters.
Where lines cross
You will also notice points where two lines intersect, sometimes called crossings or parans. Here the themes of both planets are said to blend. A Venus and Jupiter crossing, for example, is often read as a place for creativity and generous social life, while a Moon and Sun crossing may bring questions of public and private life together. As always, these are themes to explore, not outcomes to expect.
How to Use an Astrocartography Reading in Dubai Wisely
Living in the UAE, many of us have unusual flexibility to relocate, work remotely or spend long summers abroad. That makes astrocartography a natural tool for reflection. A few practical guidelines:
- Get your birth time right. Even a small error can shift lines by hundreds of kilometres.
- Look at the whole map. A single line rarely tells the full story, and other planets may be nearby.
- Remember distance. The influence of a line is usually described as strongest close to it and softer further away.
- Combine with practical research. Visas, schools, work, climate and cost of living matter far more than any line.
- Test before you commit. A short visit lets you notice how a place feels in real life.
Used this way, your map becomes a conversation starter about what you want from the next chapter, rather than a set of instructions.
